Corfu Island also known by its Greek name Kerkyra is one of the most popular islands for visitors to Greece. The island has natural beauty with secluded beaches and traditional villages set amongst endless olive groves that lead down to the sandy beaches and clear blue sea. There are also many established resorts on the island offering everything from buzzing night life to active beaches with water sports. More family orientated resorts can also be found. A selection of restaurants, cafe's, bars , shops and entertainment for all ages is found at most of the larger resorts. Transportation CORFU AIRPORT is just outside Corfu Town. Flights are available to Athens and Thessaloniki daily. For more information see our Flights Section FERRIES are available to and from many destinations in Greece such as Kefalonia, Igoumenitsa, Patras as well as Ancona, Bari, Brindisi, Trieste and Venice in Italy. OTHER TRANSPORTATION - Taxi's are readily available in Corfu Town and resorts. Car Rental and Moped Hire are also available on Corfu Island. For moped hire we highly recommend you also obtain and use a helmet. ~ Corfu Town - The Architecture of Corfu Town has traces of history from the times of British, Venetian and French rule. A fine example is Venetian style yellow and rose buildings with green shutters. Corfu Town has many attractions worth visiting such as the Old Fortress, New Fortress and some museums. It also has many bars, restaurants, taverns, cafes and shops. ~ Gouvia - North of Corfu Town on the east coast of Corfu Island this developed resort is popular for active holidays which involve a busy night life. With many international bars, discos, restaurants offering various entertainment you can party until the early hours of the morning and recover in the sun and sea on the shingle and stone beach. Once refreshed try out many of the water sports available from the stations located on the one side of the bay. Being a more touristy resort you can still find Traditional Taverns serve freshly caught fish. Gouvia is aproximately 30 minutes drive from Corfu Airport. ~ Ayios Yiannis - Situated on the east coast of Corfu Island which is known for some of the best and least spoilt beaches.
