Naxos Island is the largest of the Cycladic Islands and considered by many one of the most beautiful with its citrus and olive groves, picturesque coastline with peaceful golden sandy beaches. As well as the islands beaches, clear sea and warm summers the island also has to offer archeological sites and museums, medieval monuments, monasteries, Venetian castle, traditional villages and Greek mythological stories.

To truly experience Naxos Island its recommended you explore the island to find its secluded beaches, traditional mountain villages and beautiful olive grove valleys.

For more information see our flights section.  Ferries are available to many destinations such as Amorgos, Crete, Donoussa, Mykonos,  Ios,  Paros, Santorini, Syros Tinos, Pirieas and more. For more information see our ferries section . There is a bus service available to most areas of Naxos Island as well as many Taxi services and Motorcycle hire.

Naxos Town - is the Islands capital. The medieval region of the town is full of character with its narrow streets and Venetian fortress. There are many shops, cafe's, restaurants, taverns, bars and some discos in Naxos Town especially near the waterfront. Some good taverns offering traditional meals can be found in old Naxos. 

Agios Georgios - is approximately 1km from Naxos Town, it has a long stretch of Golden Sandy Beach as well as some restaurants, bars, cafe's and shops in the area.

Halki and Filoti - are both villages in the Tragea highland valley. Tradea moutainsides are full of olive trees, churches and wild flowers. Both villages and others in the way are worth a visit, Chalki with its Venetian towers and Filoti with its picturesque footpaths.

Mount Zas - Explore the amazing views from Mt. Zas where in the distance you can see Poros Island. If you are interested in hiking take the 1 ½ hour walk from Filoti to the 150m deep Cave of Zeus in Mt. Zas. Legend has it that the Ancient Greek god Zeus was raised here ! However if you are not one for Greek Mythology the walk and views are most enjoyable. Even though there is a Natural Spring with drinkable water on the way its recommended you take water and wear good walking shoes. If exploring the cave don't forget a torch (flashlight). 

Naxos Island Weather

During the warmer months of June, July, August and September the daily temperatures normally reach an average top of 26ºC, (79ºF). May and October are a little cooler with the average high temperature of 22ºC (71ºF). January is normally the coldest month with an average high temperature of 14ºC (58ºF) and average low temperature of 9ºC (49ºF).
